Getting a Diagnosis and Understanding Your Tests
There is something rather unsettling about being told that your blood tests are ‘interesting’.
I remember that word particularly well. It was one of the first things my GP said when my own results came back, and I was far from delighted to hear it.
Perhaps you recognise some of the symptoms of genetci haemochromatosis. Or perhaps you have no symptoms at all, but a routine blood test or a relative’s diagnosis has led to an unexpected conversation.
Either way, this chapter is about getting from a collection of numbers and abbreviations to something more useful: an understanding of what is known, what remains uncertain and what should happen next.
